Moon Phase
A bright, bold, beautiful Full Aquarius Moon graces us on Monday August 3rd. The Full Moon illuminates peaks from two different cycles. The shorter four-week cycle started on July 20th with the New Moon in Cancer. The longer six-month cycle began January 24th with the New Moon in Aquarius. In comparison with the plant cycle, the Full Moon coincides with the flower blooming and symbolizes something exploding into view. Consider what new seed was planted on these dates in your personal life and in the world.
Astrological Meaning
A Full Moon highlights the natural polarities in life. This one shows the Sun in regal Leo opposing the Moon in liberating Aquarius. To some degree, the human condition always involves wrestling and balancing opposing forces. When balanced, this opposition celebrates (Leo) all sentient beings as one community (Aquarius). Leo infuses warmth and confidence into Aquarian vision and objectivity. Aquarius broadens and universalizes Leo’s more personal scope. The Moon in Aquarius suggests innovation, truth telling, and rebelliousness. Underscoring this Aquarian unpredictability, Uranus in Taurus squares the lunar axis, creating a powerful and unstable T-square. This ratchets up tension and demands a breakaway from norms.
The Journey of the Sun & Moon
On the day before, the Sun exactly squares Uranus. This suggests that dominant culture’s toxic attitudes needs to be jack hammered apart to allow new growth to spring from the rubble. Hours later, the Moon contacts Saturn, the planet of conservatism, traditional values, and oppression, as he moves backwards through Capricorn, which reminds us that this fight is not over. The Moon chews on this through the night, before venturing into Aquarius in the wee hours of morning. She then follows suit by squaring Uranus.
Air Signs (Aquarius) refer to relating. We must prioritize listening to each other, particularly bringing the unheard to the table for equal participation. Mars in Aries infuses (trines) an already fiery Sun in Leo with the fire of action. For those who study yoga, this is similar to the heat raised through practicing postures, to cleanse and purify. May we use this heat to burn through ignorance, and step up to the plate with courage and heart.
