Vulnerability and Inner Power

Venture Inwards
Fittingly, this New Moon occurs in the middle of the night, as we wander deeper into the dark of the Winter Solstice. As the phase that marks the beginning, a new moon presents an opportunity to put a stake in the ground. In shamanic Scorpio, it suggests a time to venture inwards to confront the origins of intense emotions and mine for hidden resources. We return, newly transformed, and better equipped to face the challenge of the times. This is crucial work for individual health and the health of our society.
Despite our fear of the dark, the human journey requires this descent into the personal underworld. True power is found in facing your vulnerability and understanding the root of your motivations. Trust that you have the courage to look at what’s there, and let it catalyze you into action. What if Luke Skywalker had never had gone to visit Yoda?
Put another way, it’s kind of like going into the psychological basement and being brave enough to switch on the light. You may need to sweep aside old cobwebs of emotion. Are there any toxic relics you can cart off to HAZMAT for proper disposal?
Symbolic Meaning Of the New Moon
The New Moon forges constructive connections with the steadily dissolving knot of planets in Capricorn. For many months, we’ve looked to the cluster of Jupiter, Pluto, and Saturn as a symbol of massive structural shifts in human society. We share different yet connected stories of isolation, conflict, and vulnerability. The illusion of separation pervades us. Can we profoundly imagine a new way to engage with those who seem to oppose us? With the North Node in Gemini, the focal point remains communication – dialogue, listening, and empathizing.
Since her Full Moon howl on Halloween, the Moon met up with and absorbed messages from Uranus, Venus, and Mercury. Uranus strives to wake us up to the truth of a shared and interdependent planet. Venus (in home sign Libra) gives the gift of equanimity during emotional times. Mercury imparts the importance of doing the work and sharing the fruits of your labors through rapport with others.
Be a Compassionate Catalyst
In your own life, plant a seed for catalyzing change, within and without. Is there an area in your life that needs your discerning yet compassionate scrutiny? Because of the deep nature of such inquiry, set aside time and a private space for yourself. Ritual creates a conscious container that you can enter and exit at will. If you like, burn some cedar and sit quietly. Feel your connection with the ground beneath you, and picture the taproot of your energy drawing down. Then contemplate the questions below in whatever way suits you. If you know your rising sign, focus on the house listed below. If you don’t, choose a question that appeals to you to work with.
